MILPITAS >> The Konocti Youth Soccer League Bay Lynx entered teams in the under-12 and under-10 girls divisions, taking a first and a second, during the Spring 2026 District 2 Recreation Cup tournament Saturday and Sunday in Milpitas.
The under-12 squad won all four of its matches, including a victory by penalty kicks against the San Jose Soccer League’s Black Panthers after the two team battled to a 1-1 tie during regulation in the championship game.
Gina Nuchbumthoeng scored for the Bay Linx in the first half of regulation play. San Jose tied it with a penalty kick in the second half. The penalty-kicker tiebreaker went all the way down to the sixth kicker, with Bay Linx goalie Marcella McKernan driving home a goal to win it.
“This tournament win was the result of a team that played for each other every minute they were on the pitch,” Bay Lynx head coach Chris McKernan said. “The effort, communication and heart these players showed all weekend was incredible. What makes this group special isn’t just the soccer they play, it’s the bond they’ve built on and off the field. I’m proud of every single player for competing with passion and representing the club the right way.”
During the team’s four-game tournament run, Camila Gregorio scored two goals while Nuchbumthoeng, Aria Woodard, Cami Yapelli, Elizabeth Rico, Briseis Hoaglen, Hazel Allen and Hannah Arriaza each scored one.
Under-10 girls
The Bay Lynx under-10 girls lost their first game but won the next two to reach the championship match.
Avalia Hernandez scored early in the championship game to give the Bay Lynx a brief lead, but Central Valley San Jose was able to rally from behind for a 2-1 win, taking advantage of a Bay Lynx defensive miscue in the final minutes to snap a 1-1 tie.
“The entire coaching staff could not be more proud of these girls fishing as the runner-up in their first tournament,” coach Sarah Erlandson said. “Nearly all of them were new to tournaments. These girls had only had one scrimmage together before this tournament.”
Anna Aguilar scored four tournament goals to lead Bay Lynx. Hernandez finished with three goals, Kinsley Rarick had two, and Eva Erlandson and Gianna Erlandson one apiece.
The team also received strong defense from Alaska Salas and Ava Fernandez, according to coach Matt Erlandson.
