LAKEPORT >> Clear Lake freshman Amelie Davis clubbed a pair of home runs in the same inning and finished the day 4-for-4 with six RBIs, including a double, as the Cardinals built a 19-0 lead in a 19-5 win over the Fort Bragg Timberwolves at Lakeport.
The game was called after 4 ½ innings because of the 10-run mercy rule.
Clear Lake took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the third inning and proceeded to send 21 batters to the plate and score 16 times.
“We nearly batted around three times,” Clear Lake head coach Scott Schaefers said.
Clear Lake’s first eight batters reached safely in the inning. Davis smacked her fourth and fifth home runs of the season to tie Kelseyville’s Josie Keithly for the Lake County. She is the first Lake County freshman to hit that many home runs at the varsity level.
“She’s smiling all the time and she’s such a goof, and I mean that in the best way possible,” Schaefers said. “She’s a joy to be around.”
The Cardinals (7-3 league, 13-6 overall) pounded out 20 hits, eight for extra bases – six doubles and two home runs.
Cali Albaum went 3-or-4 with two RBIs, Faith McIntire went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, Abbi Malley went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, Lindee Bingham went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and winning pitcher Atiana Patino went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs. Kam Cresto, Karsyn Greer (double) and Ashlynn Cruz (double) had the other hits. Cruz just missed hitting a home run of her own, according to Schaefers.
Fort Bragg (1-8, 2-13) scored all of its runs in the top of the fourth.
Patino pitched all five innings, striking out five and walking one.
Clear Lake plays its third game of the week Thursday at home against Cloverdale at 4 p.m.
