CLOVERDALE >> There was good news and bad news for the Middletown High School softball team on Wednesday as the Mustangs traveled to Daly Field in Cloverdale to play the North Central League I-leading Eagles.
The bad news for Middletown (1-7 league, 2-8 overall) was it ended up on the wrong end of an 18-2 decision to the Eagles (7-0, 12-2). The good news is the Mustangs won’t have to play Cloverdale again this season.
Cloverdale beat Middletown 17-0 in the league opener for both teams on March 26 in Middletown. Just like that game, Wednesday’s encounter didn’t go very well for the Mustangs, ending with the 10-run mercy rule coming into play after five innings. The Mustangs did score this time, losing pitcher Hannah Tribby (2-for-2) knocking in both runs.
Behind the pitcher of Camryn Bird, Cloverdale built a 12-0 lead after two innings.
Chesnie Henry and Ally Cherry added two hits apiece for Middletown, which returns home Friday to play Kelseyville at 4 p.m.
