Broncos hold off Lucerne for 7-6 victory; Mountain Vista shuts out Obsidian 10-0

MIDDLETOWN >> The Middletown Middle School softball team held off Lucerne 7-6 in softball action Monday in Middletown.
Lucerne (1-2 league, 3-2 overall) scored twice in the top of the sixth to make it a one-run game, but Middletown (3-0, 5-1) held on for the win.
Mia Martin went 2-for-2 for the Broncos while Avery Zolensky went 1-for-3 with two RBI. Chloe Berry also drove in two runs.
Emmie Hernanez pitched the final three innings for the victory, striking out six and walking six.
Chevelle Sprague went 2-for-4 for Lucerne.
Both teams are home Wednesday for 4:30 p.m. games. Middletown hosts Upper Lake while Lucerne hosts Mountain Vista.

Mountain Vista 10, Obsidian 0 (5 inn.)
At Kelseyville, Maylee Antoni pitched a two-hitter, striking out eight as the Mountain Vista Lancers shut out the Obsidian Bears in five innings.
Antoni also had one of Mountain Vista’s four hits. Kaitlyn Tarin went 1-for-2 with a double and RBI, Aliana Gomez knocked in two runs, and both Aubrey Mullin (1-for-2) and Fiona White (1-for-1) knocked in runs.
The Lancers improved to 2-0 in league play and 4-5 overall.
“We had an absolute gem of a pitching performance by Maylee Antoni and a strong defensive game overall,” Mountain Vista head coach David Kennedy said. “Obsidian’s pitcher was very good, but we were able to string together enough good at-bats to get some runs.”
Mountain Vista visits Lucerne on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
