HIDDEN VALLEY LAKE >> Middletown won all but third singles against Kelseyville in Coastal Mountain Conference North tennis action Tuesday afternoon at the Hidden Valley Lake courts.

The 4-1 victory over the Knights gives Middletown a 4-1 conference record while Kelseyville falls to 2-2.

Will Hoskins defeated Maddy Borghesani 6-3, 6-1 in first singles.

“This match was a lot closer the score indicated,” Kelseyville head coach Andy Dobusch said. “Lots of deuces where one deciding point determined the outcome of the game. Will was more consistent in the crucial moments of this competitive match, and it earned him the win.”

Middletown’s Harrison Brown beat Riley Lopez 6-0, 6-2 in second singles.

“Harrison is playing some good tennis and was too much for Riley to handle,” Dobusch said. “These guys had some great rallies and shotmaking. It was a fun match to watch.”

Kelseyville’s lone win came courtesy of Olivia Bushey’s 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 win over Anthony Lopez in third singles.

“Olivia’s serve was impressive and more consistent, which helped her hang on to win her first three-set singles match,” Dobusch said. “Winning in three sets is tough. It’s even tougher if you lose in the second set. Olivia stayed mentally tough and hung on.”

In first doubles, Middletown’s Leland and Jasian Pike beat Olivia Raabe and Riley Hanson 7-5, 6-3.

“Up 4-0 in the first set, it looked like the girls might take down the Pike brothers and tie up the match, but in the end too many unforced errors and double faults allowed Jasiah and Leland back in the match and ultimately cost them the win.”

In second doubles, Middletown’s Luis Pamatz and Nalu Johnson defeated Grace Peterson and Brooklyn Young 6-0, 6-1.

“Luis and Nalu were just too big, strong and physical for Grace and Brooklyn,” Dobusch said. “Luis was hitting some bomb serves and Nalu was aggressive at the net and made it hard for our girls to pass or lob over.”
