UKIAH >> Sebastian Cacho and Angel Bernal scored in the first half and that 2-0 lead stood up as the Kelseyville High School junior varsity boys soccer team defeated Ukiah 2-1 in non-league action Saturday in Ukiah.

It was the season finale for the Knights (2-5).

Diego Rico assisted on Cacho’s goal while Julio Lopez assisted on Bernal’s goal.

“The final game of the season for my JV squad,” Kelseyville head coach KC White said. “We went out with a bang! Any time you can beat a Ukiah team, I consider it a big accomplishment. We lost to them last week 3-0, but we held them scoreless in the second half. We carried that energy over to today and played really well.”

Cacho’s goal came from about 35 yards out after Rico hit him in stride with a pass.

“Sebastian hit it over the keeper’s hands,” White said. “It was a really great goal.”

The Knights added to their lead later in the first half when Bernal took a pass from Lopez toward the edge of the box and chipped it over the keeper’s head at a difficult angle, according to White.

“I’m excited about the trajectory of this group over the course of the season,” White said. “While our season is over, a big portion of my JV squad consisted of freshmen, and the group as whole improved immensely. I’m going to lose some of the group to football next year (when Kelseyville soccer switches back to the fall season), but I will retain a big portion of them for our switch to the fall. Playing in the winter had the advantage of having a JV team, which is something that is probably not possible in the fall season. So, instead of not playing soccer this year, they got to practice for a full season play some games, which will benefit them moving forward.”
