Mustangs drop 11-9 decision to South Fork in tournament consolation championship game

FORT BRAGG >> Middletown jumped ahead of South Fork 4-0, but the Mustangs’ seven errors in the field helped South Fork overtake and beat the Mustangs 11-9 in the consolation championship game of the Fort Bragg Tournament on Friday.
Jon Hawkins (2-for-5) hit a solo home run while driving in three runs for the Mustangs (4-3), who went 1-2 in the tournament. Hunter Karp added three hits and a RBI while Cody de Jong went 2-or-4 with a RBI. Austin Davis also had two hits, and Aiden Noonis went 1-for-1 with a RBI.
South Fork held a 7-6 lead through four innings. The Cubs added to that lead with two runs in the fifth and two in the sixth. The Mustangs cut it to 11-9 with three runs in the bottom of the sixth.
The Mustangs open their North Central League I schedule Tuesday at home against Kelseyville at 4 p.m.

Willits 10, Upper Lake 0
At Upper Lake, Upper Lake was able to go the entire seven innings with Willits but ended up being shut out by the Wolverines, who stopped the Cougars on just two hits – singles by Cameron Milhaupt and Landen Robinson.
“We couldn’t get the bats going on offense,” Upper Lake assistant coach Wyatt Hensley said. “We were not aggressive enough at the plate today. Willits had great pitching and we couldn’t answer.”
Upper Lake starting pitcher Tyler Collins took the loss, working the first four innings. He struck out six and walked three.
Upper Lake (2-4) opens its league schedule Tuesday in St. Helena at 4 p.m.
