Cardinals take it to Knights on their homecourt during conference action

KELSEYVILLE >> The Mendocino Cardinals took control of the Coastal Mountain Conference North tennis race Friday with a 5-0 victory over the Kelseyville Knights at the Gard Street courts in Kelseyville.
Mendocino also beat two-time CMC defending champion 4-1 on Tuesday in Mendocino. The Cardinals are now 3-0 while Kelseyville fell to 1-1.
“They’ve got a lot of strong players returning from last year,” Kelseyville head coach Andy Dobusch said.
The closest the Knights came to a win was in second doubles where Brooklyn Young and Grace Peterson lost their first against Mendocino’s Leah and Joaquin Vodopals, 6-3, but won the second 6-4. A tiebreaker was played in lieu of a third set and Mendocino won 7-5.
In singles action, Max Oatney beat Maddy Borghesani 6-2, 6-1, Vale Gunthier defeated Riley Lopez 6-0, 6-2, and Leo Hinkley beat Olivia Bushey 6-1, 6-3.
In first doubles, Olivia Raabe and Riley Hansen fell 6-2, 6-4 to Enzo Abuliak and Gabi McElroy.
Kelseyville hits the road Tuesday to play Middletown at 4 p.m.
