Cougars send handful of athletes to field-event-only meet in Fort Bragg

FORT BRAGG >> Upper Lake High School’s Angelina Bendure won the discus and finished second in the shotput Wednesday afternoon as eight members of the track team participated in a field-event-only meet at Fort Bragg High School.

Bendure won the discus with a toss of 68 feet, 10 inches while a throw of 27-3 earned her second place in the shotput.

Saphira Hughes topped the field in the long jump by clearing 14 feet, 10 ½ inches.

In the frosh/soph girls division, Lillyana Boke came in second in the shotput with makr of 20-11.

Jakob Estrada set a personal best in the long jump at 16-11 1/4, finishing fifth.

“It was just a small field event meet that really went well for us,” Upper Lake head coach Thomas Santana said. “We continue to grow out squad and team every day, and we really are putting something good together. Friday will be a test for all these athletes at the county meet in Lower Lake.”

The annual Lake County Meet opens 3 p.m. Friday at Lower Lake High School.
