KELSEYVILLE >> The Upper Lake Middle School A boys basketball team advanced to the championship game of the Lake County Junior High Athletic League postseason tournament with a 69-44 victory over Obsidian on Friday night in Kelseyville.
Upper Lake (14-0) can complete a perfect season with a win Saturday at 1:30 p.m. against Terrace Middle School of Lakeport in the finals at the Kelseyville High School gym. Terrace School moved into the finals with a 56-19 victory over Mountain Vista Middle School.
“While the final score shows a 25-point margin, the game itself was intense from start to finish,” Upper Lake head coach Dani Paige Gudmundson said. “Obsidian pushed the temp early and move the ball extremely well. Their transition offense gave us some trouble in the first quarter, and defensively we know we can tighten things up.”
Bennett Guardino scored 18 points to go along with seven rebounds for Upper Lake. Cayden Beecher added 17 points, 11 rebounds, eight steals and five assists. Other team leaders were Dezmond Solomon with 12 points and eight rebounds, and Xielan Florez with 12 points, four rebounds and six steals.
Obsidian and Mountain Vista meet in the third-place game.
In the B division, Terrace and Middletown advanced to the finals with semifinal-round victories Friday. Terrace defeated Mountain Vista 47-30 while Middletown edged Obsidian 38-36.
The B-division championship and third-place games took place Saturday morning at Kelseyville High School.
