Upper Lake, Clear Lake teams square off in annual fun tournament

UPPER LAKE >> Magdely Garcia of Upper Lake and Jesse Hayes of Clear Lake won their respective brackets Thursday during the annual ping pong competition between the two Lake County high schools.
Play was double elimination in both the boys (10 players) and girls (eight players) divisions. Garcia defeated Clear Lake’s Makaylei Martinez in the girls championship match while Hayes beat Upper Lake’s Jaden Nunz in the boys championship match.
Clear Lake’s team roster featured Hayes, Fabian Moreno, Franics Rivera, Ryken Villanueva and Kaden Graham on the boys side, and Martinez, Jazmin Wiebusch, Amanda Truby and Atiana Patino on the girls side.
Upper Lake’s team roster consisted of Garcia, Alyssa John, Jordan Parker and Aimee Schaefers on the girls side, and Nunez, Landen Robinson, Carey Swaney, Carlo Narveas and Gage Faalelea on the boys side.
In the boys semifinals Hayes defeated Clear Lake teammate Moreno while Upper Lake’s Nunez beat Clear Lake’s Rivera.
In the girls semifinals Garcia beat Clear Lake’s Wiebusch.
Brian Figg of Upper Lake and Milo Meyer of Clear Lake were the coaches.
