Team members experience plenty of success in two different tournaments

MEDFORD, Ore. >> The Gladiator Wrestling Club sent team members to the Rocky Mountain Nationals in Medford, Oregon, and to the NorCal Elementary State Championships in Orland on Saturday.

At the Rocky Mountain Nationals, Jameson Philpot won the 7-and-under 62-pound division, going 2-0 with a pin and a technical fall. He also placed second in the 7-and-under 66-pound division with a 2-1 record that included a pin and a technical fall.

Other firsts went to Elijah Tucker, who went 3-0 with two pins and a technical fall in the 8-and-under 74-pound division, and to Anastasia Garcia, who went 2-0 with one pin in the 8-and-under girls 74-pound division. Tucker finished fourth in two other divisions, going a combined 4-4 with four pins.

Kailaya Philpot came in third in the girls15-and-under 130-pound division with a 2-2 record featuring two pins. Another third went to Fernando Calvillo, who went 2-2 with one pin in the 13-and-under 123-pound division.

Thomas Philpot finished fourth in the 11-and-under 98-pound division with a 2-2 record. Also taking fourth was Kylie Dugger in the 10-and-under 80-pound division.

At the NorCal Elementary State Championship in Orland, Cristiano Lopez went 3-0 with one pin to win the 80-pounds-and-under bracket while Elijah Lopez placed second with a 2-1 record in the 103-pounds-and-under bracket.

“Every Gladiator battled hard today and it showed,” head coach Jonathan Philpot said. “Every Gladiator stepped foot on the podium Saturday and some multiple times. I am proud of every single wrestler that stepped foot on the mat today. I’m truly honored to coach they young student-athletes They inspire me to keep pushing forward as I hope I do the same to them.”
