MIDDLETOWN >> Upper Lake Middle School’s A boys basketball team built a big halftime lead while knocking off Middletown Middle School 61-17 on Wednesday evening in Middletown.
The undefeated Wildcats (3-0 league, 7-0 overall) took a 30-7 lead into halftime.
“We led 30-7 at halftime, but I felt we were still settling in during the first half and not playing at our usual pace,” Upper Lake head coach Dani Paige Gudmundson said. “That said, the boys stayed disciplined and focused on taking care of the basketball. After committing 16 turnovers in our previous game, we cut that number down to just seven, which was a big improvement.”
Kayden Beecher led the way with 22 points, nine rebounds, five assists and three steals, Bennett Guardino added 16 points and 12 rebounds, Dezmond Solomon had 13 points, 17 rebounds and four steals, and Jose Delgado Beecher chipped in 10 points and nine assists.
“Everyone saw minutes on the floor, and it was a true team effort,” Gudmundson said. “I was especially proud of our defensive discipline, and we’re looking to carry that momentum into Monday night’s game against Obsidian (at Upper Lake).”
