12-and-under softball team brings home tournament trophy

PETALUMA >> The Lake County Diamonds 12-and-under traveling softball team won the silver bracket last weekend during the Halloween Spooktacular Tournament at Kenilworth Junior High in Petaluma.

The Diamonds beat the RP Rebels Lafrancois 8-2 and Windsor Wicked 8-3 to claim the silver bracket title, the first travel ball softball trophy won by a 12-and-under Middletown team.

Against the Rebels, the Diamonds struck early, scoring seven times in the first inning led by a two-run single from Ava Cockrill, RBI singles from Peyton Beehler and Natalie Strausborger, and RBI walks drawn by Madison Richter and Emmie Hernandez.

Strausborger added another RBI single in the third inning to make it 8-2.

Winning pitcher Beehler struck out tossed a four-hitter, striking out seven.

Strausborger and Avery Zolensky each finished the game with two hits.

Against the Windsor Wicked, the Diamond again had another big first inning, scoring six times. Beehler got the rally going with a leadoff single while Zolensky and Strausborger also added key hits. Cataleya Valencia drew a bases-loaded walk, Hernandez reached base after being hit by a pitch, and a dropped third strike also aided the six-run rally.

Valencia’s clutch two-run single in the third inning pushed the Diamonds’ lead to 8-1.

Beehler scattered six hits to earn the pitching win. She struck out six and walked two in five innings.

Zolensky finished with three hits while Madison Richter walked twice. Strausboger anchored the defense with six clean chances in the field.
