LAKEPORT >> The Westshore Cardinals rolled past Sonoma 34-0 in the pee wee division of the Mendo-Lake Empire Junior Football League on Saturday in Lakeport.

“Our offensive line and backs were making some great blocks downfield,” Westshore head coach Vince Rave said. “I’m super proud of the way this team competed.”

Vincent Rave rushed for 99 yards, two touchdowns and an extra point while also returning a punt 58 yards for a score. Elius Mendoza also ran for a score and two extra points. His touchdown was set up by a 27-yard pass from Josh King to Noah Freeman.

King added a 70-yard rushing touchdown, at which point the league’s mercy rule went into effect.

“Our second team stepped in and played great football,” Rave said.

Brayden Walsh scored a 70-yard touchdown late in the game and Tyson Rose added the extra point.

King’s five tackles led the Westshore defense. Rave had four solo tackles and three assists, Mendoza and Cesar Gonzalez had four tackles apiece, and Gonzalez also recovered a fumble.

“This was a great team win,” Rave said. “Everyone is improving each week. It’s exciting to see the effort these boys are putting in.”

Westshore (8-1) concludes its regular-season schedule Saturday in Kelseyville (6-3) at 3:30 p.m. Both teams are headed to the league playoffs the following weekend.
