Cardinals QB Pops Horne passes for two touchdowns, runs for another

MIDDLETOWN >> Quarterback Pops Horne passed for two touchdowns and ran for another Saturday as the undefeated Westshore Cardinals shut out the Middletown Colts 28-0 in the varsity division of the Mendo-Lake Empire Junior Football League at Bill Foltmer Field in Middletown.
Horne’s 45-yard pass to Jayvon Evans set up Westshore’s first score, a 1-yard Horne run. Horne’s 20-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Egan pushed the Cardinals’ lead to 12-0, the halftime score, and Horne’s 9-yard pass to Nathen Heath and Isaiah McCloud’s conversion made it 20-0 in the third quarter.
Landyn Collins scored on a 7-yard run in the fourth quarter. McCloud’s conversion kick increased Westshore’s lead to 28-0.
Jake Hayes recovered a fumble, and Luke Percaccio intercepted a pass to stop Middletown drives.
Westshore improved to 7-0 while Middletown fell to 4-3.
The Cardinals travel to Upper Lake to play Northshore next Saturday while Middletown remains home to play Willits. Both games kick off at 7:30 p.m.
