QB Costlow runs for pair of touchdowns, throws another against Upper Lake

MIDDLETOWN >> Kolton Costlow completed all five of his passes for 69 yards and a touchdown and also ran for two scores as the Middletown Mustangs defeated the Upper Lake Cougars 32-6 in North Central League I junior varsity football action at Bill Foltmer Field in Middletown.

The win keeps Middletown perfect on the season at 2-0 in league and 4-0 overall.

Esteban Muniz anchored Middletown’s running attack with 73 yards on only five carries before leaving the game with a leg injury in the second quarter. Luke Mace added another 65 yards and a touchdown while Dre Goins scored on a 2-yard run. Diego Pimentel had 30 yards on four carries.

Wide receiver Jay Lee caught three of Costlow’s completions for 57 yards, including a 25-yard touchdown.

Middletown finished with 279 yards of offense.

On defense, Mace led the Mustangs with seven tackles and Hudson Kelly and Lucas Hernandez had five each. Middletown also had two takeaways – a fumble recovery by Fernando Ruiz and Gavin Elliot’s interception.

Middletown hosts Willits on Friday at 5 p.m.

Upper Lake (1-1, 2-2) did not report scoring or statistics. The Cougars are home next Friday to play Clear Lake (0-2, 0-3).
