Zimmerschied, Smith, Garcia all turn in strong performances during tourney

UKIAH >> Rylee Zimmerschied scored 14 points while Kaylin Smith added eight points and 11 rebounds as the Upper Lake High School junior varsity girls basketball team beat Clear Lake 33-26 in the third-place game of the Fred Iten Invitational Saturday at Ukiah High School.
Magdely Garcia finished with seven points and four rebounds while Zimmerschied pulled down five rebounds.
Upper Lake fell 58-15 to tournament host Ukiah earlier Saturday in the winner’s semifinals round. Smith led the Cougars with six points and seven rebounds.
Upper Lake opened the tournament Friday with a 44-20 win over Point Arena as Zimmerschied (13 points), Smith (10 points) and Garcia (10 points) all scored in double figures. Smith finished the game with a double-double, pulling down 16 rebounds. Portia Klier grabbed nine rebounds.
