BRENTWOOD >> Middletown High School wrestlers came away with four medals Saturday during the Lou Bronzan (boys) and Brittany David (girls) invitational tournaments held at Liberty High School in Brentwood.
At the Lou Bronzan, Jay-j Gerst made a strong push after being knocked into the consolation bracket to finish fourth at 285 pounds.
“He was unseeded in the bracket, and after losing his second match in the championship round, he won five matches in a row before finishing fourth,” Middletown head coach Brian Hunt said.
At the Brittany David, the Mustangs scored a pair of third-place medals and a fourth-place medal. Thirds went to Cat Barriga at 110 pounds and Krystal Ocken at 170 pounds.
While going 3-1 in the 110-pound bracket, Barriga, a senior, set a school record for most career wins by a Middletown girl.
Ocken won four of her five matches at 170 pounds.
Sophie Yebra added a fourth-place medal at 100 pounds, going 2-2.
“Most of our team will resume action this weekend at home for the 2025 Dennis Jensen Invitational tournament,” Hunt said. “The varsity girls will resume action next week at the Napa Tournament.”
