UPPER LAKE >> The Ferndale Wildcats opened their 2025 season with a 3-1 road loss at Kelseyville. On Saturday, they got even.

Ferndale (3-1) scored single goals in each half while playing airtight defense in a 2-0 victory over the Kelseyville Knights in the championship game of the Tyler Duncan Memorial Tournament in Upper Lake.

In the process, the Wildcats handed Kelseyville (7-1) its first loss of the season.

“Ferndale came in with strong energy, and while our girls battled hard, we couldn’t quite find our rhythm this time,” Kelseyville head coach Irma Rodriguez said. “It was a tough match, but the Lady Knights left it all on the field. I’m still very proud of their fight and effort.”

Kelseyville has a busy week ahead with non-league games Monday against Roseland Collegiate Prep (in Santa Rosa) and Tuesday at home against Tomales. On Thursday, the Knights open their North Central League I schedule against Clear Lake in Lakeport. All three games are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.
