Clear Lake defeats Napa for second time this season in non-league action

NAPA >> AJ Bruch pitched 5 2/3 innings for the win, scattering five hits, and the Clear Lake High School varsity baseball team beat Napa 5-2 in non-league action Thursday in Napa.
Clear Lake improved to 4-2 overall with its second victory this season against Napa, a team the Cardinals also beat 6-1 on March 6 in the opening round of the Chico Tournament.
Bruch allowed both Napa runs, only one of which was earned. He struck out five and walked two.
Trailing 1-0 after one inning, Clear Lake tied the game with a run in the top of the second. The Cardinals pushed ahead to stay with another run in the third before padding their lead with a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth.
David Cruz went 2-for-3 with a RBI as part of Clear Lake’s nine-hit attack. Johnny Gonzales (1-for-3) added a double while Levi Ewing (1-for-2) and Ryken Villanueva (0-for-5) knocked in runs.
Bruch, Sawyer Smith, Payton Portlock, Jacob Horne and Zane McAuley had Clear Lake’s other hits.
The Cardinals return to action Friday at Willits. First pitch is 4 p.m.
