COBB >> Bodhi Moore’s 75 for Middletown was the low round of the day, but the Mustangs, two-time defending Coastal Mountain Conference South champions, finished third in the five-team field Thursday as a new CMC South season opened at the par-68 Adams Springs Golf Course on Cobb Mountain.

St. Helena and Technology of Rohnert Park finished 1-2 in team scoring with 371 and 382 strokes, respectively, followed by Middletown with 386, Sonoma Academy with 394 and match host Kelseyville with 410. Team score is a result of the combined four low individual rounds posted by each school.

Moore’s 7-over-par 75 was the class of the field on a cold, wet and muddy day at Adams Springs, which has been pounded by recent rainfall. Lucca Modica of Sonoma Academy had the second lowest round at 84 while both St. Helena’s Russell White and Sonoma Academy’s Burley Weeman posted 89s.

Middletown, hard hit by graduation after dominating the CMC South the last two years, struggled after Moore’s 75. David Sisson was the next lowest Mustangs scorer with 99.

Mason Harmon’s 100 and Caleb Lopez’s 101 led Kelseyville.

“Tough day for us scoring-wise,” Kelseyville head coach Tim Conrad said. “Three of our top scores were set by brand new players to this year’s club. Mason Harmon is a freshman, Hayden Brown (103) is a sophomore and Sebastian Chavez (106) is a senior.”

Lopez is a returning senior for the Knights.

Tyler Denson led Technology with 97 and teammate Sam O’Halloran had a 98.

Prior to the start of play Thursday, longtime Kelseyville High School and junior golf supporter John Berry, who died in early September, was honored. A plaque commemorating Berry’s lifelong contribution to junior golf was dedicated in his memory, “The Berry Box.”

The CMC South teams return to action next Thursday at Sugarloaf in Santa Rosa beginning at 1:30 p.m.
