UPPER LAKE >> Regina Rico found the back of the net off an assist from Vanessa Reyes in the final minutes of a 1-0 victory over Credo in the semifinals of the Tyler Duncan Memorial Tournament on Thursday in Upper Lake.

Kelseyville, now 7-0 on the season, will play either St. Bernard or Ferndale for the tournament championship Saturday at 3 p.m. in Upper Lake.

“We are beyond proud of the girls,” Kelseyville head coach Irma Rodriguez said. “We need to keep on playing hard and cannot let our guards down.”

Following Rico’s late score, Kelseyville’s defense made sure the goal would stand up, according to Rodriguez.

“The Lady Knights stayed disciplined, with the back line and midfield working together to shut down Credo’s attack,” Rodriguez said.

In other tournament action Thursday:

Clear Lake 3, Middletown 0

Maggie Paarsch scored twice, both times on penalty kicks, and Genesis Garcia also had a goal as the Clear Lake Cardinals (3-2-1) shut out the Middletown Mustangs.

“It was a very tough game against Middletown,” Clear Lake head coach Gustavo Carbajal said. “We started a little slow in the first half, but we came back strong in the second half.”

Clear Lake led 1-0 at halftime.

Clear Lake has been plagued by injuries early in the season and Carbajal said he hopes that stretch of bad luck is ending now that the Cardinals are approaching the start of league play.

“I’m very proud of this team,” Carbajal said. “This team has the biggest heart; I couldn’t be prouder to coach them.”

Clear Lake returns to action against either Del Norte or Fort Bragg when tournament action continues.
