EUREKA >> The Mendocino College volleyball team notched its initial win of the 2025 season Friday evening with a 25-11, 25-19, 25-19 road win against the College of the Redwood Corsairs in Eureka.

A Mendocino College squad dominated by Lake County players and featuring nine freshmen on an 11-strong roster was led by 10 kills and two blocks from Cora Holley (Middletown), 22 assists and 10 digs from Jayden Paulich (Kelseyville), 28 digs from Cali Schnabl (Kelseyville), eight kills and nine digs from Makayla Mace (Middletown) and nine digs from Emily Gersalia (Clear Lake). All but Paulich are freshmen.

“We played really well today,” Mendocino College head coach Kat Edmonds said. “It was a huge turnaround from last (when the Eagles opened the season with losses to Ohlone and Butte. “They dug deep and really focused on improving the things we were struggling with last week.”

The match featured former Kelseyville High School standouts on both sides of the court as 2025 alum Olivia Hommer suited up for the Corsairs.

“Cali (also a 2025 Kelseyville grad) picked up some monster kills from her old teammate,” Mendocino College assistant coach Marci Psalmonds said. “Cali played the best I’ve seen her play.”

“It was a fun game to be a part of,” Edmonds said. “The energy and togetherness were there today. This is a special group and I’m excited to see how much more we improve this season.”

The Eagles return to action Wednesday when they play Lassen (2 p.m.) and Folsom Lake (4 p.m.) at Folsom Lake College.
