SACRAMENTO >> The Lake County Fury under-16 traveling softball team committed too many errors while falling 16-3 to the Nor Cal Pride in a silver bracket playoff game Sunday during tournament action in Sacramento.
After winning their first game on Saturday, the Fury lost their final three contests, including Sunday’s game. The tournament marked the first action by the Fury this season under head coach Kris Bal. While competing in the under-16 division, most of the team’s players are on the younger side and relatively new to the sport.
“Errors killed us today,” Bal said. “Again, we’re going to work harder at practice to get more stamina. Nor Cal Pride was just crushing the ball (they hit two home runs).”
There weren’t many highlights for the Fury, but Heidi Ortega and Eden Sparks did have two hits apiece, and Ortega also drove in a run.
Losing pitcher Aubrey Sanchez worked two innings, striking out two and walking six.
The Nor Cal Pride took control of the game with a seven-run top of the second.
The Fury return to Sacramento for a tournament Aug. 9-10.
