SACRAMENTO >> The Lake County Fury traveling under-16 softball club team won its first game before dropping the next two during tournament action Saturday in Sacramento.

Tournament play wraps up Sunday.

The Fury opened its season on a high note, beating the Bolts under-14 team 8-4. The Fury scored twice in the bottom of the first inning and six times in the second to open up an 8-0 lead before the Bolts answered with four runs in the top of the third.

Kierstyn Lambert went 2-for-2 while teammate Bella Epsistrug added a run-scoring triple during the team’s big six-run second. Chevelle Sprague and Heidi Ortega added doubles.

Other Fury players with hits were Lexi Mitchell, Araya Dotson, Eden Sparks and Zeanna Carver.

Winning pitcher Dotson scattered six hits, allowed three earned runs, struck out seven and walked three.

Later Saturday, the Fury fell 10-4 to the Bay Area Bombers and lost 14-2 to the Sorcerers. No individual statistics were reported.

“But at the end of the day we ended with smiles and are the No. 3 seed in the silver bracket,” Fury head coach Kris Bal said. “The girls were definitely not in shape. They were fatigued. No one is used to this (playing three games in a day).”

The Fury play No. 4 seed Nor Cal Pride 11 a.m. Sunday. A win would put the team into the silver championship game.
