DUBLIN >> The high school track and field season for a handful of Lake County athletes drew to a close Saturday as the North Coast Section Meet of Champions wrapped up a two-day run at Dublin High School.
Clear Lake High School’s Kaylah Billig posted the top finish, taking 11th in the shotput with a throw of 33 feet, 7 ½, in a field of 24 throwers. Middletown’s Makayla Mace came in 12th out of 24 competitors in the 100-meter hurdles, breaking her own school record with a time of 16.19 seconds.
“She has been amazing all year,” Middletown head coach Wyatt Hall said. “It is always great as a track coach to see one of your athletes perform their best at championship meets and Makayla certainly did so, setting PRs in back-to-back weeks to finish out her high school track career.”
Billig was the only county athlete to qualify for the MOC in two events as she also placed 17th out of 24 competitors in the discus with a toss of 100-11.
Upper Lake’s Saphira Hughes was 20th in the long jump at 14-3.
Middletown’s Dylan Caviness took part in the pole vault but did not clear the opening height of 10-6.
“His pole vault PR is 9-6, which he vaulted last week at NCS (Class A Championships),” Hall said. “We knew it would be tough to try to complete a 12-inch PR without any jumps at lower heights, but Dylan tried his best and nearly got it. He’ll have to wait until next year.”
Added Hall, “Just participating at MOC is a good experience and he has two more years to make it.”
