REDDING >> The Konocti Youth Soccer League sent both of its under-10 teams, Dragon Blue and Dragon White, to a tournament this past weekend in Redding and both won their respective brackets to reach the championship game, with Blue defeating White 2-1.
“It’s been awesome to see the level of play elevate through practices and these games, culminating in both under-10 teams taking care of business in their brackets and facing each other in the championship game,” Dragons head coach Alberto Hernandez said. “It was an interesting experience coaching both teams in the championship game.”
Colten Bush staked Dragon Blue to a 1-0 lead in the first half before Dragon White’s Max Hernandez scored later in the half to even things at 1-1. The game remained tied midway through the second half when Drew Young’s goal for Dragon Blue proved to be the game winner.
“The Blue team’s defense and goalkeeping kept the goals away and ultimately got them the win,” Hernandez said. “I couldn’t be prouder of both teams. They played awesome all weekend. Shoutout to the awesome parents that came out for the weekend and supported the teams.”
Bush scored five teams over the weekend’s slate of games to lead Dragon Blue. Young added three goals while Elius Mendoza, Kaine Robinson, Elijah Fuller, Armando Vargas and Aaron Strickler each had one.fi
