LAKEPORT >> Terrace Middle School’s B co-ed soccer team hosted a round-robin tournament with Fort Bragg and Eagle Peak on Saturday in Lakeport.
While Terrace played only its B players, the Vikings’ two opponents sprinkled in some A players after falling behind, according to Terrace head coach Becca Joyce. Terrace ended up tying in both games, 3-3 against Eagle Peak and 6-6 against Fort Bragg, to take second place.
Fort Bragg beat Eagle Peak 6-1 to finish 1-0-1 and win the tournament. Eagle Peak ended up 0-1-1 in the standings.
“My players never gave up and held their own against some much bigger players,” Joyce said. “What was supposed to be a friendly jamboree for extra B-team play time really got ugly. Two Eagle Peak players were red-carded. It’s a shame for the B-team players of the other schools who looked forward to some play time.”
In the tie against Eagle Peak, Terrace built a 3-1 halftime lead. Brandon Martinez scored twice for the Vikings and Clara Luchsinger had the other goal. In the tie against Fort Bragg, Terrace owned a 4-2 halftime lead. Sabino Ballardo scored twice for the Vikings while Luchsinger, Sellena Carbajal, Anthony Tapia and Sage Smith all had one goal.
“I’m sure my B team stayed in the entirety of both games and really made us proud,” Joyce said.
