MIDDLETOWN >> Cassie Candelario-Gamez and Hayden Perez scored eight points apiece, but it was a healthy dose of rebounding and defense by Maci Parker that sparked Terrace Middle School’s 34-23 win over the Middletown Broncos in A-level girls basketball action Thursday night in Middletown.
Parker pulled down 13 rebounds and also blocked eight shots for the Vikings.
“She played tough and made a huge difference,” Terrace coach Louie Sanchez said. “We had to play most of the second half with five players and we battled.”
Terrace overcame foul trouble as the host Broncos were in the bonus all four quarters.
“This was a huge win,” Sanchez said. “We’ve lost a lot of very close games.”
Middletown scoring wasn’t reported.
In the B game, Terrace avenged a one-point loss to Middletown earlier in the week at Lakeport. Olivia Rose and Milah Henderson led the Vikings with six and five points, respectively.
“We lost a close in Middletown on Monday, and the girls were anxious for today,” Sanchez said. “Our defense was huge. We held Middletown to one point in the second half.”
Gracelyn Rose and Kendra Partida anchored Terrace’s strong defensive play, according to Sanchez.
Middletown scoring wasn’t reported.
