KELSEYVILLE >> Carson Stone homered for the Kelseyville Knights in their title-clinching and season-ending 10-8 victory over the Fort Bragg Timberwolves in North Central League I junior varsity baseball action Tuesday afternoon in Kelseyville.
Kelseyville (10-0 league, 12-1 overall) needed a win to avoid a co-championship situation as Fort Bragg had only one league loss entering play.
“Every time we scored, they would score,” Kelseyville head coach Sean Navarro said. “Fort Bragg kept fighting all the way to the end, scoring three times in the seventh inning. They are a very good team.”
Added Navarro, “This was a huge accomplishment for our guys to be 10-0 in league with all the really good teams in our league. We really had the next-man-up attitude during our spring break. We were short some starting players and had to make some changes, and my guys stepped up to continue our undefeated run. I believe after we came out of spring break, we were a better and stronger team.”
In addition to hitting a home run, Stone earned the save in relief of starting and winning pitcher Reese Johnson, who worked the first six innings.
Case Pivniska reached base three times and scored twice to help fuel the offense. Deake Lyndall also scored twice.
“Reese Johnson, Deake Lyndall and Carson Stone had a solid year for me this season,” Navarro said.
