ROHNERT PARK >> Maddy Borghesani did one better than her seeding Saturday as the Coastal Mountain Conference Tennis Championships wrapped up a two-day run in Rohnert Park.
The No. 3 seed in girls singles, the Kelseyville High School junior upset No. 2 seed Ella Bartolome in Saturday’s semifinals before falling to another Sonoma Academy player, No. 1 seed Lynna Xu, in the championship match.
“Maddy played the best she’s played all season during her match against Ella,” Kelseyville head coach Andy Dobusch said of Borghesani’s 6-4, 6-4 semifinal-round victory. “Maddy’s strength is hitting hard from the baseball, but her opponent could hit equally as hard and maybe even a bit more consistent. Maddy won the match by playing smart tennis, hitting off-pace balls and drop shots.”
Xu went on to defeat Borghesani 6-1, 6-1 in the championship match.
Girls doubles
A team from Credo (Rohnert Park) defeated the No. 4-seeded Kelseyville’s doubles team of Olivia Raabe and Riley Hanson of Kelseyville in the semifinals, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, but Raabe and Hanson rallied to take third place with a 6-2, 6-2 win over their St. Helena opponents.
“A couple points here and there was the difference in the match,” Dobusch said of his team’s semifinal-round loss. “It could have gone either way. They rebounded nicely, cutting down their unforced errors and soundly won the third-place match.”
Boys singles
Middletown’s Will Hoskins, seeded No. 4 in boys singles, lost to eventual champion and No. 1 seed Alex Sae of Sonoma Academy 6-1, 6-1 in the semifinals. In the third-place match that followed, Hoskins fell 6-2, 7-5 to the No. 3 seed from Credo.at
“Will played some amazing tennis against extremely tough competition,” Dobusch said. “He’s going to be tough to beat during the 2026 season.”
Team points
Sonoma Academy acquired the most team points during the two days of the CMC Championships followed by St. Helena in second place and Kelseyville in third.
