ST.  HELENA >> It’s better than a loss, sort of.

The Kelseyville and St. Helena varsity girls soccer teams battled to a 0-0 deadlock on Thursday afternoon in the North Central League I opener for both teams at St. Helena High School.

“We had plenty of shots but were not able to score,” Kelseyville head coach Irma Rodriguez said. “Both teams battled hard to score, but neither succeeded.”

Kelseyville (0-0-1 league, 4-5-1 overall) was turned back time and time again by the St. Helena keeper, according to Rodriguez.

“St. Helena’s goalkeeper was able to stop us every time,” Rodriguez said.

“I am very proud of the girls tonight. They all played a really good game. I’ll settle for a tie rather than a loss,” Rodriguez added.

The Knights return to action Wednesday in Healdsburg for a non-league game against the Greyhounds. Play begins at 5 p.m.
