ST. HELENA >> Nursing a 1-0 lead into the seventh inning, the Kelseyville Knights ended up with a 3-0 victory Tuesday afternoon in St. Helena to remain undefeated in the North Central League I junior varsity baseball standings.
Kelseyville (8-0 league, 10-1 overall) went up 1-0 in the top of the first on Carson White’s RBI single. That was all the scoring until Andrew Souza and Jorge Gonzalez scored on back-to-back passed balls in the seventh.
Reese Johnson pitched a shutout, working out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the bottom of the fifth.
“Between our defense and a key strikeout by Reese Johnson, we were able to escape,” Kelseyville head coach Sean Navarro said. “St. Helena is a very good team.”
Pivniska (2-for-3) scored from second base on White’s single in the first inning. Stone and Gonzalez also had hits for the Knights. Kimo Brown walked twice.
“I am very proud of my guys on how they fought their way to the end to get the victory,” Navarro said. “These games are getting tougher and tougher.”
Kelseyville’s next scheduled game is May 9 at home against Cloverdale at 4 p.m.
