CLOVERDALE >> Capping a perfect season, the Middletown High School tennis team completed a 12-0 run Tuesday afternoon with a 4-1 road victory over the Cloverdale Eagles.
It’s the second straight year coach Tony Hart’s Mustang have claimed the Coastal Mountain Conference North championship, led by conference most valuable player Will Hoskins, first-team selection Harrison Brown, and honorable mentions Anthony Lopez and Leland Pike.
“We were a little rusty yesterday having just come off spring break,” Hart said. “Will was challenged at times and Dylan (Sanchez, of Cloverdale) pushed him by playing great.”
Hoskins beat Sanchez 6-4, 6-3 in first singles.
Cloverdale’s lone win came in second singles where Edgar Arellano rallied for a 3-6, 7-5 (10-8), 6-3 win over Brown.
“Harrison dropped his first match of the year,” Hart said. “He had trouble making his shots and Edgar played well by coming to the net. Harrison could not find the shot to get past him.”
Lopez beat Andrea Goana 6-2, 6-3 in third singles.
“Anthony got back in the win column and played well,” Hart said.
Kelseyville’s double teams posted straight-set wins. Leland Pike and Jasiah Pike beat Jane Wood and Ashlee Gonzalez 6-1, 6-1 in first doubles, and Nalu Johnson and Luis Pamatz defeated Yolanda Reyes and Andrea Alanis 6-0, 6-0 in second doubles.
“Our doubles teams continued to roll,” Hart said.
Next up for the undefeated Mustangs are the CMC Championships Friday and Saturday at Magnolia Park in Rohnert Park.
