KELSEYVILLE >> In only their second season of fielding a boys volleyball team, the Kelseyville Knights have two North Central League I championships.
Kelseyville clinched its second straight co-championship Tuesday night with a 25-14, 25-13, 25-11 victory over Anderson Valley, leaving the Knights tied with Roseland University Prep of Santa Rosa atop the final league standings, both teams at 9-1. The same two schools shared the title a year ago.
Kelseyville and RUP will meet in a special playoff later this week to determine which co-champion gets the league’s automatic berth into the North Coast Section playoffs.
“We are still trying to schedule the playoff match with RUP for Saturday afternoon, but it’s still TBD (to be determined),” Kelseyville head coach Donelle McCallister said.
Kelseyville wrapped up a 15-10 regular season by winning 12 of its final 13 matches, including its final four.
“Boys played a little more cohesively tonight,” McCallister said. “Anderson Valley had a lot of tips and dumps from their attackers, and our defense was able to pick a majority of them up.”
Otoniel Rivas led the Knights with 22 digs. Up front, Andon Beall and Jorge Bernal finished with 13 and 10 kills, respectively. Julian Armas had 30 assists and Jozef Arias served six aces.
“Some of the younger players made some impact in the game,” McCallister said.
Among those players, Diego Serrato had four kills, Kolby Medina added two kills, and Diego Hernandez Batres had two digs.
NOTES: After Kelseyville and RUP tied for the league title a year ago with 7-1 records, Kelseyville swept RUP in a playoff at Santa Rosa before losing to Albany in the opening round of the sectional playoffs.
