Terrace, Upper Lake co-ed soccer squads battle to 0-0 draw in league play

MIDDLETOWN >> Marco Soto scored twice and assisted on another goal as the Obsidian Middle School co-ed soccer team beat Middletown 4-1 on Monday afternoon in Middletown.

Soto’s teammate, Yael Viveros Lopez, added a goal and two assists in the victory.

Obsidian outscored Middletown 3-0 in the second half. Adrian Guzman had the other goal for the Bears.

“The team stepped up their game today in a hard-fought victory against the Broncos,” Obsidian head coach Andres Hernandez said.

Middletown scoring was not reported.

In other middle school co-ed soccer action Monday:

Terrace 0, Upper Lake 0 (tie)

At Upper Lake, the Terrace Vikings and Upper Lake Wildcats battled to a 0-0 draw.

“Both teams played well and fought had, but Upper Lake’s keeper was on fire,” Terrace head coach Becca Joyce said. “He made at least 20 saves. We just couldn’t get a good shot in.”

Terrace is 1-2-4 in league play. The Vikings close out league play and the regular season Wednesday in Lower Lake against Obsidian. The middle school playoffs take place next week and include the league’s top four finishers.
