KELSEYVILLE >> Kelseyville High School’s Maddy Borghesani rallied from a loss in the first set to beat Fort Bragg’s Bryson Fletcher 3-6, 6-3, 6-2 as the Knights scored a 4-1 victory in Coastal Mountain Conference tennis action at the Gard Street courts in Kelseyville.

“It took Maddy a little while to find her groove,” Kelseyville head coach Andy Dobusch said as the Knights improved to 4-1 in the CMC North standings. “But she settled in and overcame a slower pace of play than she’s used to. Even though she dropped the first set, I thought she’d pull through. I think it was her first come-from-behind three-set win, so it was good for her growth.”

Olivia Hommer rolled to a 6-0, 6-0 win in second singles, shutting out Fort Bragg’s Estelle Broward.

“She really hit some amazing shots today,” Dobusch said. “She showed off her athleticism in a complete win.”

Kelseyville won by forfeit in third singles.

The Knights picked up another win in first doubles where Olivia Bushey and Brooklyn Young beat Ethan Zartman and Rebecca Valencia 6-4, 6-0.

“These girls continue to improve,” Dobusch aid. “They’re getting more consistent, and both cover the court really well. They’re playing great tennis for first-year players.”

Fort Bragg beat Kelseyville’s Grace Peterson and Gemma Tanti 7-6, 3-6, 7-5 in a hotly contested second doubles match.

“A close three-set match that could have gone either way,” Dobusch said. “The match was stressful to watch, back-and-forth lead changes and runs made by each team. Grace had a really good day serving and was great at the net. I was happy how both Gemma and Grace played today, just bummed they didn’t get the win.”

Kelseyville returns to action Friday in Willits.
