RED BLUFF >> The Heat 16-under club volleyball team out of Middletown took fifth place Saturday during the North State Tournament series in Red Bluff.
After winning all three of its pool matches, the Heat won their first gold bracket match before losing in the second round.
“The morning pool play went smooth and the Heat remained dominant in every aspect of play,” Heat head coach Vanessa Davis said. “We kept on a steady roll and never backed down, sweeping every team in our pool despite being the third seed.”
The Heat beat Legacy Price 21-17, 21-9, Momentum Black 21-9, 21-14, and Redwood Coast 21-14, 21-15 in pool play.
Advancing to the gold bracket, the Heat knocked off Corning 21-9, 21-15 before losing 21-15, 21-19 to Adrenaline.
“The first round of gold we remained tough and rolled over Corning with ease,” Davis said. “Adrenaline was definitely more challenging competition, and we lacked effort as the latter-half-of-the-day competition snuck up on us. We just can’t get over the gold bracket fatigue.”
Added Davis, “Even with the loss, I am still extremely proud of the way these young athletes paly. We are consistently in the top of the bracket, and we leave everything out on the floor.”
Stats leaders for the Heat were outside hitter Emma Davis with 25 kills, 21 service points, 12 aces, 37 digs and one block; setter Bridget Lisenbee with 51 assists, 23 digs, four kills and eight aces; defensive specialists Kaia Bohan with 29 service points, 26 digs and seven aces; defensive specialist Samanta Maccario with 30 digs, 20 service points and six aces; libero Trinity Galvan with 43 digs, 12 service points and six aces; middle hitter Crystal Duval with 14 kills; middle hitter Casi Padilla with 11 kills; and opposite hitter Brenna Goodloe with 11 kills.
The Heat’s last league tournament of the season is April 12 in Red Bluff.
