Team opens club volleyball season at Redwood Rumble in Roseville

ROSEVILLE >> Despite a tough draw in its first match, the Middletown HEAT under-16 club volleyball team finished third overall in the gold bracket Saturday and Sunday during the season-opening Redwood Rumble in Roseville.

The HEAT ran smack into No. 1 seed, the Force Nationals out of Sacramento, in their pool opener Saturday and fell 25-13, 25-12. The team bounced back in pool play to defeat Golden State Volleyball 25-8, 25-7 and Force 16s Kim 25-12, 25-17.

Moving into the gold bracket Sunday, HEAT head coach Vanessa Davis said her players ran into some “intense competition,” losing both of its matches.

The HEAT fell to TVA Smack Power 25-18, 25-22, and Club Solano Black 25-9, 7-25, 15-7.

“We battled every point and really were coming together as team making solid plays,” Davis said. “I am excited to see how we do in our Northstate League season, which starts in February.

HEAT leaders were setter Bridget Lisenbee with 46 assists, 13 service points, eight aces, seven digs and four kills; outside hitter Emma Davis with 28 digs, 23 kills, 13 service points and five aces; libero Trinity Galvan with 25 digs, 24 service points and seven aces; middle blocker Brenna Goodloe with nine kills and four blocks; middle blocker Crystal Duvall with 23 service points, 11 aces, 11 kills and one block; and defensive specialist Samantha Maccario with 20 service points, nine aces and nine digs.
