KELSEYVILLE >> Winning all five matches in straight sets, four of those without dropping a single game, the Kelseyville High School tennis team overpowered the Willits Wolverines 5-0 in its season and Coastal Mountain Conference opener Tuesday at the Gard Street courts in Kelseyville.

Maddy Borghesani rolled past Salisa Leon 6-0, 6-0 in first singles, Ryan Taylor beat Daylin Richardson 6-0, 6-0 in second singles, and Riley Lopez defeated Karina Velazco 6-0, 6-0 in third singles.

In first doubles, Olivia Raabe and Olivia Hommer knocked off Mason Valente and Yamile Vierya 6-0, 6-0. Kelseyville completed the sweep behind Olivia Bushey’s and Riley Hanson’s 6-1, 6-3 win in second doubles.

“This is the first year of tennis for these two and they got off to a great start,” Kelseyville head coach Andy Dobusch said of Bushey and Hanson. “They’re both great athletes and are quickly picking up the game.”

Dobusch said the 2025 Kelseyville roster is packed with talent.

“The future is bright for tennis in Kelseyville. We’ve got a deep, talented team with a group of experienced players along with a group of freshmen who are going to keep our program strong for the next four years,” Dobusch said. “These kids are hungry to win the pennant back. They’re already hitting the ball well, serving well, and just playing good tennis to start the year. Our lineup is likely to shift a bit this season because we’ve got competition throughout most of the team.”

Added Dobusch, “My top two singles (Borghesani and Taylor) are two of the top players in our section and are going to be tough to beat, and we’ve got strong competition for third singles. We’re loaded with talent this year and we’ve got great community support. Life is good after a season-opening win.”

Kelseyville (1-0) returns to action March 21 at home against Mendocino.
