Point Arena defeats Upper Lake with four-run eighth inning

ARBUCKLE >> Kelseyville scored 15 times in the top of the third inning while beating the Pierce Bears 20-0 in a four-inning non-league varsity baseball game Tuesday afternoon in Arbuckle.
Brock Barrick (3-for-3) and Kyle Watkins (2-for-2, double) each knocked in four runs as the Knights improved to 4-1 on the season. Gene Holdenried added three hits and a RBI while Michael Dougherty went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Max Hommer (1-for-1) scored four times.
The Knights scored singled runs in the first and second innings before busting the game open in the third.
Tyler Bryant started on the mound for Kelseyville and worked two hitless innings, striking out three and walking one. He received the win. Brayton Thomas finished up, allowing Pierce’s lone hit over the final two innings. He struck out two and walked one. Bryant also went 1-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored.
Pierce (2-5) got one runner as far as third base.
Watkins was hit by the pitch on three separate occasions and Reme Strong (1-for-4, RBI) once.
Weather permitting, Kelseyville opens play Friday against Redding Christian in the opening round of the West Valley Tournament.

Point Arena 7, Upper Lake 3 (8 inn.)
At Upper Lake, the Point Arena Pirates scored four times in the top of the eighth inning to snap a 3-3 tie and beat the Upper Lake Cougars.
Point Arena scored three times in the top of the first against Upper Lake starter Tyler Collins, who then blanked the Pirates for the next six innings, striking out 14 and allowing only four hits. He was forced to leave the game after seven innings because of his pitch count, and George Rahmer came on in relief.
Rahmer, who took the loss, allowed Point Arena’s four runs in the eighth. The Pirates broke the 3-3 tie with a two-run single, then added a two-round double. Rahmer struck out one and didn’t walk a batter.
Weather permitting, the Cougars return to action Friday at home against Ferndale at 4 p.m. They are scheduled to host Laytonville next Tuesday at 4 p.m.
