Team competes in handful of tournaments, taking first at Queen of the Redwoods

WILLITS >> Members of the Gladiator Wrestling Club competed in a handful of tournaments over the weekend and brought home all kinds of hardware.
During one of two Saturday tournaments, the Gladiators sent nine girls to the Queen of the Redwoods tournament in Willits, an all-girls competition consisting of youth and high school wrestlers. The Gladiators finished first in the team standings with 120 points, beating out host Willits (94.5) for the championship.
Both Kaitlyn Crow and Brodie McDaniel finished first in two different weight classes. Other firsts went to Kylie Dugger, Anastasia Garcia, Alley Oakes and Lilly Oakes in the youth division and to Mirabel Myer and Kailaya Philpot in the high school division.
Seconds went to Garcia and Myer. Kailaya Philpot and Riley Garner added thirds.
At the RMN Terminator World Championships in Arizona, which also took place Saturday, brothers Maverick, Brantley and Brayden Paminto all took part. Maverick placed second in two separate divisions while Brantley finished second and third in his two divisions. Brayden came away with fourth- and fifth-place finishes.
Representing the Gladiators as a team, the Paminto brothers placed 36th in the 174-team field.
Sunday tourneys
The Gladiators, both boys and girls, returned to Willits on Sunday for the Gatekeeper tournament, placing second as a team with 273 points. Willits won the championship with 309 points.
Logun Whittle finished first in both the middle school and high school divisions. Other firsts went to Elijah Tucker, Colin Crow, Thomas Philpot, John Young and Brodie McDaniel, and to Daniel Garner and Anthony Myer in the high school division.
Claiming seconds were Kameron Colston, Colin Crow, Sebastian James, Mirabel Myer, Kailaya Philpot and Joseph Szupello. Riley Garner finished third.
Schedule
The Gladiators are approaching the end of their folkstyle season as they finish up with the Gladiator Brawl on Sunday at Lower Lake High School. Most of the youth wrestlers begin at 9 a.m. while the middle school, high school and adult wrestling starts at noon.
