LAKEPORT >> Mikaela Rico scored four goals and assisted on another as the Kelseyville High School girls soccer team dispatched Roseland University Prep 8-1 in North Central League I action Monday at Clear Lake High School in Lakeport.

“Today they went out on the field ready to win,” Kelseyville head coach Irma Rodriguez said.

Kylee Denham scored two goals for the Knights (2-2-3 league, 6-8-3 overall) while Kat Wheelan and Vanessa Reyes each had one.

Kelseyville put the game away early, scoring six times in the first half.

“I was super proud of the way the Lady Knights played tonight,” Rodriguez said. “They went out on the field with the determination to win this game. They had some really good communication and passing tonight.”

Rodriguez praised the play of defenders Reyes, Xiomara Arias, Arionna Sanderson, Mya Ogo and midfielders Denham, Regina Rico, Jacky Chavez and Andrea Fernandez for limiting RUP’s scoring opportunities.

“We asked God before the game today to give the team faith to believe in each other and have the strength to get out on the field and play a good game,” Rodriguez said. “And they did just that tonight.”

Kelseyville resumes league play Wednesday in Cloverdale at 5:30 p.m.
