LAKEPORT >> Kelseyville High School’s varsity boys soccer team dropped a 5-0 decision to Roseland University Prep in North Central League I action Monday at Clear Lake High School in Lakeport.
Kelseyville trailed 2-0 at halftime.
“We lost 5-0, but I felt like it was one of our best games of the year,” Kelseyville head coach KC White said. “We lost to RUP a couple weeks ago 9-1, so there was a lot of improvement tonight.”
Added White, “We played them really tough in the first half and created a couple chances, including a cross in front of the game that found the foot of Luis Alvarado, but it was high. We allowed goals in the 17th and 25th minutes.”
Kelseyville held RUP off the scoreboard for the first 30 minutes of the season.
“Which is a great accomplishment with that team,” White said. “We allowed goals in the 56th, 70th and 78th minutes, but continued to pressure on our end as well. Jake Smart had a one-on-one with the keeper, but the keeper made a great save.”
White praised the play of Luis Valdovinos and Sebastian Cacho.
“I thought they played like leaders tonight,” White said. “I was impressed with each guy’s effort and level of intensity they brought to the field. Also, my goalie, Cameron Smith, was given the task of being keeper against RUP, which is definitely not an enviable position, and he played wonderfully back there. He has blossomed into a great keeper.”
Added White, “I was really happy with their effort tonight. We had some bulletin board material from the last game with RUP and we used that for a little extra motivation tonight. We played inspired.”
Kelseyville (1-3-1 league, 2-15-3 overall) returns to action Wednesday in Cloverdale at 4 p.m. The varsity girls follow at 5:30 p.m.
