UKIAH >> Clear Lake High School’s Silas Reese took the competition in the annual Redwood Classic wrestling tournament by storm Saturday at Ukiah High School, claiming the 128-pound title and upsetting the Nos. 1 and 3 seeds along the way.
“Silas Reese had an amazing tournament,” Clear Lake head coach Markham Odell said.
Reese upset the tournament’s No. 1 seed, the sixth-ranked wrestler in the North Coast Section, in the semifinals before the No. 3 seed in the finals.
“This kid has some major potential in doing serious damage at the upcoming NCS championships,” Odell said.
Reese was the top placer among the Cardinals competing at the tournament. Ralphy Blancas placed fourth at 215 pounds, Carson Wikstrom was fifth at 167 pounds, and Saul Rascon came in sixth at 140 pounds.
Clear Lake hosts Middletown and Willits in a Coastal Mountain Conference tri-meet Tuesday in Lakeport. It’s the last home meet of the season and the Cardinals will honor their senior wrestlers, according to Odell.
