UPPER LAKE >> Anaya Kilstrom’s double-double of 17 points and 11 steals along with nine points and 10 rebounds from Emma Davis propelled the Middletown Middle School A girls basketball team past the Upper Lake Wildcats 48-17 on Thursday evening in Upper Lake.

Middletown (8-0 league, 13-2 overall) will participate in the end-of-season Lake County Junior High Athletic League postseason tournament next week. The pairings will be announced Wednesday.

“We stayed consistent throughout the game, scoring 20 in the first half and 28 more in the second,” Middletown head coach Shannon Williams said. “And our defense was locked in all game long with 30 team steals.”

Alina Kilstrom contributed eight points to the Middletown win.

Middletown led 20-11 at halftime and had the game well in hand through three quarters, leading 33-15.

“Our team passed the ball well with 12 assists on 18 made baskets,” Williams said. “Teamwork and unselfish play has been a hallmark of this team and it shows in those stats.”

Added Williams, “Our entire team contributes, whether it’s with defense, scoring, rebounding or assists. It’s been a tremendous season and I’m so proud of these young ladies and how they carry themselves on and off the court. We are looking forward to the league tournament next week.”

B team wins as well

Middletown’s B team also concluded a perfect league season (10-0) with a 25-2 victory over Upper Lake. The Broncos held Upper Lake without a basket, limiting the Wildcats to a pair of third-quarter free throws.

“Tonight, the girls worked hard on defense in a very physical game,” Middletown head coach Erika Galvan said. “Offensively, we ran our plays well and found the right openings.”

Sophia Perez led Middletown with eight points, five steals and two rebounds. Other top contributors were Sophia Azevedo with four points and six rebounds, Stella Brand with four points, and Camila Galvan with eight rebounds.

“Everyone contributed to this win,” Galvan said.

Middletown’s B squad returns to action next week in the postseason tournament.
