AMERICAN CANYON >> One mistake cost the Kelseyville High School varsity boys soccer team in a 1-0 non-league loss to American Canyon on Monday in American Canyon.
“Our only mistake of the game led to their only goal in the 35th minute,” Kelseyville head coach KC White said. “Lost possession on a goal kick and we just didn’t recover in time.”
White said he was pleased with the Knights’ overall effort as they fell to 0-6-2 on the season.
“The really good Knights showed up today, I’m extremely proud to say,” White said. “Based on the level of competition we played today this was by far our best performance of the season.”
Kelseyville’s best scoring chances came late in the second half, including a barrage of shots in the final 10 minutes.
“But we couldn’t get one into the net,” White said.
“I could probably single out a few players, but I feel like that would not properly illustrate the amazing team effort we had today,” White said. “Every single guy gave everything they had today, and we gave them a massive scare. Obviously, the team is disappointed in losing, but I tried to remind them that as long as they play their best ball and leave everything out there, they can hold their heads high.”
Kelseyville is off until a Jan. 4 game in Fairfield at 3 p.m.
