Patti, Krohn, Mateer power Kelseyville up front in sweep of Clear Lake

KELSEYVILLE >> The Kelseyville Knights wasted no time in making quick work of the Clear Lake Cardinals during their North Central League I varsity volleyball match on Tuesday night in Kelseyville, rolling to a 25-9, 25-15, 25-12 victory.
Kelseyville improved to a league-best 5-0 while tuning up for its first-place showdown Thursday night in Cloverdale against the Eagles (5-1), fresh off a four-set victory Tuesday night in Fort Bragg.
The Knights dominated at the net behind seven kills from Nyejzniya Krohn (on 16 attempts, no errors) and five kills apiece from Bella Patti (on 10 attempts, no errors) and Matisyn Mateer, who also had two blocks and a team-best five aces. Kelseyville also received solid play from Ashlyn Klein (11 assists) and Cali Schnabl (10 digs).
“Shoutout to coach Izzy (Clear Lake coach Izzy Short) who is coaching both JV and varsity,” Kelseyville head coach Donelle McCallister said. “She is putting her heart into the Clear Lake High School volleyball program.”
Clear Lake opened league play 2-0 but has since dropped three in a row. No Clear Lake statistics were reported.
Kelseyville’s junior varsity squad also moved to 5-0 in league play with a 25-15, 25-21 win over Clear Lake.
“All of our athletes stepped up to fill holes on our team,” McCallister said. “They worked well and played consistently all night. Shoutout to our returning players Liberty Lewis, Grace Hobbs, Josie Keithly and Morgan Rogers. They lead the team by example through a strong work ethic.”
Clear Lake’s JVs fell to 3-2 in league play.
No statistics were reported by either team.
Kelseyville closes out the first half of its league schedule with two huge road matches – Thursday against Cloverdale (5-1) and next Tuesday against Fort Bragg (3-2), the defending NCL I champion.
