LOWER LAKE >> The Lower Lake Trojans showed no mercy on the Upper Lake Cougars during Tuesday’s non-league varsity boys soccer game in Lower Lake, which also was part of the annual Tyler Duncan Memorial Tournament sponsored by Upper Lake.

Leading 7-1 at halftime, the Trojans scored 11 times in the second half during their 18-1 victory.

Junior forward Daniel Rojas scored the only Upper Lake goal on an assist from sophomore Mario Olivero.

“It was a very hard game to watch and a hard game for my team to be a part of,” Upper Lake head coach Thomas Santana said. “We’re still finding our footing with being practically a brand new team this year and the inexperience truly showed in our keeper.”

On the totally one-sided nature of the game, Santana tried to be diplomatic in explaining Lower Lake’s run up of the score during the second half.

“Being down 7-1 at the half I thought may Lower Lake would find a way to get their bench a little more involved, but that wasn’t really the case,” Santana said. “They continued the constant attack. By 15 minutes left I had my full bench in and Lower Lake didn’t plan on slowing down. Their bench was screaming ‘go for 20.’”

Added Santana, “My team kept its composure and stayed sportsmanlike through it all.”

Both teams return to action Friday against opponents to be determined as the Tyler Duncan Memorial in Upper Lake.

  1. We use Low ranked teams like Upper Lake for example to practice our 1-2 touches and get better chemistry, the point of the game is to score as many as possible and win the game, our coach did have a lot of bench players out there but it’s hard for a low ranked team like upper lake to tell and it isn’t our fault our competition isn’t as competitive as we expect if you went a fair match there’s always lower ranked divisions you can qualify for
